《戰場：太平洋戰役》的時間設置在二戰，遊戲中擁有激烈並含有多個行動的戰鬥，以及在一個額外的範圍發生的戰略戰役，同時還包含有兩個截然不同的單人遊戲戰役。作為美軍，遊戲從《戰鬥位置：中途島》結束的時候開始，讓玩家從中途島之戰一路打到沖繩，從而拯救太平洋的和平。而作為日軍，玩家則須控制日本帝國艦隊，利用僅有的機會去顛覆歷史，取得對太平洋的完全控制權。
在《戰場：太平洋戰役》中美軍和日軍的單人遊戲戰役共有超過28個劇情任務，是前作《戰場：中途島戰役》的兩倍，並擁有21種新的單位，包括神風特工隊和其他二戰戰鬥機及單位。玩家現在可以使用另一種戰爭視點，可以直接控制臭名昭著的“櫻花”和其他日軍空戰單位，在二戰時期的太平洋上空戰鬥。
遊戲第一次包含了戰場上的戰術登陸部隊。精確設定著陸點投射你的降落傘中隊，確保你的登陸部隊的安全通路，讓你的部隊攻佔關鍵區域，駐防炮兵守衛陣地，奪取戰略立足點來支援你的進攻勢力。
