剧情：
这是在2065年，由于受到狮子座陨石的撞击，地球上产生了一种叫幽灵的生命形式。幽灵可以穿越任何物理障碍，它们会主动攻击人类并吸收人类的灵魂，甚至人类只要与之有所接触也会导致感染……城市荒芜了，人类被迫移居到有屏障保护的几个“堡垒城市”，堡垒以外除了幽灵几乎没有生命存在……42号“堡垒城市”纽约城的生物中心指挥希德博士及其助手阿琪·罗斯博士正在进行这方面的研究，他们认为只要在堡垒之外找到八个“灵魂”，就能找到与幽灵的生物波相反的波形，通过发射这种波，就能消灭幽灵……与此同时，由于幽灵杀害了妻儿而对幽灵恨之入骨的海因将军则坚持使用宙斯炮攻击陨石……但博士认为这样做会伤害到地球的灵魂“盖亚”，后来他们意识到这些幽灵其实只是陨石所在的行星毁灭以后行星上的死去生物的灵魂，并不是外星侵略者……但海因将军的偏执让他变得疯狂，甚至让他亲手毁灭了纽约城……正当勇敢的上尉格雷和阿琪在陨石坑中找到第八灵魂时，海因下达了宙斯炮对陨石坑的发射指令……使地球的盖亚受到攻击受损，外星盖亚迅速蔓延……宙斯炮也在海因疯狂频繁发射下由于过载而灰飞烟灭……但最后阿琪用残存在身体里的波长拯救了世界，净化了外星盖亚，但格雷作为进化导体被外星盖亚夺去了灵魂……地球上又迎来了新的一天，阿琪抱着逝去的爱人看着希望的旭日慢慢升起……
