侏羅紀公園慘劇發生的22年後。如今公園的所在地“努布拉島”已經被重新建立成為了一個嶄新的恐龍主題樂園，並更名為“侏羅紀世界”。當初的開辦者約翰·哈蒙德所創辦的“國際基因科技公司”已經被“馬斯拉尼國際企業”收購。
歐文（克裡斯·帕拉特 Chris Pratt 飾）是一名退役軍人以及動物行為專家，在主園區的外圍的迅猛龍研究基地進行隱密的工作。歐文多年來訓練了一批具侵略性的迅猛龍，和它們建立起主從關系，勉勉強強讓它們得以壓抑住掠食者的天性、不情願的聽從指示。久而久之，當公園的游客開始對恐龍的表演開始感到厭倦時，在公司的要求下，公園所有的基因科學家夜以繼日地創造出了一只基因混合恐龍——D-Rex掠食者恐龍，專家一開始只是為了增加游客數量才動用這個計劃，但未預料到野蠻和聰明程度都仍是未知數的恐龍想出了逃脫方法，而消失在叢林深處。侏羅紀世界裡的所有生物，包括人類和恐龍的性命都受到威脅。這時內部的命令讓園區陷入混亂，游客成為了恐龍的獵物。
恐龍們相繼逃出，在大地、空中和水裡對人類進行獵殺，整個園區已經沒有任何一個角落是安全的，22年前的慘劇再度上演……
