桂宝（王云飞 配音）生活在蓝鲸市，他是个整天奇思妙想的超级天才，但他的新发明无意间引发了一场大麻烦，蓝鲸市长禁止了桂宝的发明权。正当桂宝失落之际，却收到了一封来自外太空的神秘邮件，竟然是宇宙顶级机器人发明大赛的邀请函。桂宝喜出望外，决定立刻向宇宙进发。与此同时，三位好友阿芹（杨天祥 配音）、阿桃（唐小喜 配音）、春妞（山新 配音）误入桂圆号飞船，他们和桂宝一起来到了大赛的主办星球基美星，基美星的主人拖拉基公爵热情好客，同时来参赛的还有其它外星球的天才们。比赛中，桂宝顺利进入决赛，他发明的超级厨神机器人力克强敌，取得了机器人发明大赛的冠军。就在桂宝等人开心的返回地球的途中，桂宝号突然失灵，危难之际，神秘外星人救了桂宝等人，随之而来的，是这一切背后的真相……
电影改编自著名漫画家阿桂（桂华政）的经典漫画书《疯了！桂宝》。
